About

Mission
To develop a coordinated fundraising effort by area firefighters to provide specialized patient care services, education, prevention, and research for burn survivors at Miami Valley Hospital Regional Adult Burn Center and the Children’s Medical Center Burn Unit.

Who Can Participate
Those organizations that have as their mission:
• Prevention of fire or burn injuries
• Care of individuals with burn injuries
• Support services for burn survivors

Goals
• Patient Care Services
• Survivor’s Support Group Activities
• Prevention / Community Awareness
• Staff Educational Grants
• Research Grants

Patient Care Services
• Latest technology not identified in normal budget cycle.
• Items identified as needed by burn center, but not funded in the hospital’s budget.
• Patient items not covered by insurance; such as pressure garments and items for activities of daily living

Survivor Support Group Activities
• Holiday Gatherings
• Monthly Support Meetings
• Peer Support
• Survivor Camp Experiences

Prevention / Community Awareness
• Promotes community awareness of fire and burn prevention.
• Provides grants for community prevention activities.

Staff Education Grants
The small number of burn centers limits the available courses in burn care. This requires staff to travel to obtain education specific to burn care. The hospital provides limited reimbursement to staff for seminars. Grants for education ensure that the staff remains knowledgeable in the latest technology specific to the care of burn injured patients.

How the Foundation Works
• All participants are equal regardless of department size or status.
• All participants will have representation to the decision making body.
• Your money stays local.
• No one receives a salary.

Where the Money Resides
• The foundation is under the umbrella of the Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association.
